Michael J. Barondes, MD
Retina & Vitreous Disorders

Dr. Michael J. Barondes is a specialist in retina and vitreous disorders. He received his medical degree from Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts. He completed his internship in the Department of Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York and an ophthalmology residency at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York. Dr. Barondes completed a Medical Retina Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, England, followed by a fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin. He has authored articles on retinal disorders and participated in teaching at local and national meetings.

Dr. Barondes' clinical interests include management of diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and retinal detachment. He is a faculty member of the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine.

Robert M. Bauer, II, MD, PhD
General Ophthalmology, Cataracts

Dr. Bauer joins White Eye Associates, PA, after serving as a comprehensive ophthalmologist in the United States Army. He was Chief of the Department of Surgery at Winn Army Community Hospital, Fort Stewart, Georgia, and also performed over a thousand laser refractive procedures for Special Forces Soldiers. Dr. Bauer received his medical degree from the University of Illinois, College of Medicine, and also earned a doctoral degree in neurophysiology from the University of Illinois. He completed his internship and a residency in ophthalmology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Bauer is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is also a faculty member of the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine. His clinical interests include cataract and eyelid surgery.

Sarah M. Escott, MD
Uveitis, Cataracts

Dr. Sarah M. Escott is a specialist in uveitis with additional interest in general ophthalmology and cataract surgery. She received her medical degree from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Following an internship at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, she served four years on active duty in the United States Navy as a flight surgeon.

Dr. Escott went on to complete an Ophthalmology residency at The Ohio State University Havener Eye Institute followed by a clinical uveitis fellowship at Northwestern University in Chicago. Dr. Escott's clinical interests include medical management of anterior, intermediate, and posterior uveitis as well as scleritis, including the use of immunosuppressive medications and performing cataract surgery.

Veda J. Moore, MD
General Ophthalmology, Cataracts

Dr. Veda J. Moore is our general ophthalmologist with a special interest in cataract surgery. Dr. Moore received her bachelor's degree in Biology at Pennsylvania State University and her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Pennsylvania.

Dr. Moore completed her internship in the Department of Medicine at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She completed an ophthalmology residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. She is also a faculty member of the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine.

Steven A. Steinberg, MD
Glaucoma, Cataracts

Dr. Steven A. Steinberg is our glaucoma specialist. He received his undergraduate degree from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was an honor student. He was a Cum Laude graduate of the State University of New York College of Medicine in Brooklyn, New York, where he received his medical degree and was elected a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Steinberg was a medical resident at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn and completed his ophthalmology residency at the Department of Ophthalmology at the State University of New York Health Science Center in Brooklyn/Kings County Hospital Center.

Dr. Steinberg remained in Brooklyn and completed a glaucoma fellowship at the State University of New York. He is presently a faculty member of the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine. His clinical interests include medical and surgical management of glaucoma, as well as small-incision cataract surgery.

Jeffrey J. Viscardi, MD
Cornea, Cataracts, Refractive Surgery

Dr. Jeffrey J. Viscardi is a cornea specialist who has been fellowship trained specifically in refractive surgery. He received his undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and his medical degree from the State University of New York in Brooklyn. Dr. Viscardi was an intern at the Staten Island Hospital Department of Internal Medicine in New York, and completed his ophthalmology residency at the State University of New York in Brooklyn. He completed a fellowship in diseases of the cornea and anterior segment at the Ohio State University, followed by a fellowship in refractive surgery at the Beckman Laser Institute at the University of California in Irvine. He is also Chief for the Division of Ophthalmology of the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine.

Dr. Viscardi is one of the most experienced surgeons performing refractive surgery in the region. He has performed thousands of refractive laser procedures.
